Teacher Cover Letter Example (Elementary, Middle, and High School)
Principals get stacks of letters that say "passionate about education". Yours should say what your students did. Growth data, a project, a behavior system that worked, and a reason you chose their school.
Fictional applicant Priya Raman applying for Grade 5 Teacher at Oakridge Elementary School.
Dear Principal Hughes, I am applying for the Grade 5 teaching position at Oakridge Elementary. I hold a state teaching license in elementary education and have taught fourth and fifth grade for four years at Linden Park Elementary, where my students' median reading growth last year was 1.4 grade levels on the district's fall-to-spring benchmark. The thing I do best is small-group instruction that does not fall apart when I turn my back. I run a rotation system with clear jobs, a visible timer, and a two-minute reset between stations; my classroom referrals dropped from eleven to two between my first and second year, and stayed there. Parents know what is happening because I send a short Friday note with one thing to ask their child about. I also built a semester-long "neighborhood history" project in which students interviewed older residents, mapped the answers, and presented at the public library. It was later adopted by two other classrooms. I am comfortable with Google Classroom, i-Ready, and our district's MTSS documentation. Oakridge's dual-language program and its emphasis on project-based learning are why I want to teach here specifically. Thank you for considering my application. I would be glad to visit and teach a demonstration lesson. Sincerely, Priya Raman (555) 013-4480 · [email protected]
