Nursing Cover Letter Example (New Grad and Experienced RN)
Nurse recruiters skim for licensure, unit experience, and whether you will be safe on day one. Put those in the first paragraph. Then show one clinical judgment story and one teamwork story.

Dear Nurse Manager Whitfield, I am applying for the Registered Nurse position on the Medical-Surgical Unit at St. Helena Regional Medical Center. I hold an active state RN license and a BSN from Rivermont University, and I have two years of med-surg experience at a 240-bed community hospital, where I carried a typical load of five to six patients on nights. The shift I think about most was a post-op patient whose blood pressure drifted down over two hours while his numbers still sat inside the parameters. I called the resident early, asked for a repeat lactate, and he was back in the OR within the hour with a bleed. I mention it because your posting stresses early recognition of deterioration, and that is the part of nursing I take most seriously. I also precepted three new graduates during our unit's staffing shortage last year and helped rewrite our bedside handoff checklist, which cut our reported handoff omissions by about a third over one quarter. I am comfortable with Epic, chest tubes, PCA pumps, and telemetry, and I hold current BLS and ACLS.
