Two weeks notice: what people ask
Do I have to give a reason?
No. A resignation letter records the date; the reason is a conversation, and even then you can keep it to "a new opportunity".
Should I email it or hand it over?
Tell your manager first, by voice. Then send the letter by email the same day so there is a timestamp. Attach it as a PDF if your company keeps personnel files.
What if I am asked to leave immediately?
Some employers walk people out on the day they resign. Your letter still states your intended last day; whether you are paid for the notice period depends on your contract and local law.
Can I give less than two weeks?
Check your contract or handbook. Two weeks is a custom in the US, not a law, but shorter notice can cost you a reference or unpaid leave payout.
